Prescription medications and supplements appear in a block on the patient's dashboard, and in the "Audit Prescription Actions" tool. 

General/Medications Block

Use these settings to configure the appearance of the Medications block on the patient's dashboard.

You can change the tab order to that either Medications or Supplements is in front, and enable or disable a text box at the bottom of the block that allows user to enter a general note.

You can choose whether expired and discontinued medications are listed in the block itself, or only in the expanded list the pops out from the icon in the upper right corner. If they are shown in the block, you can choose to list them in chronological order by when they were added, or below Active or Administrative medications.

Medication Dosing Window & Printable Prescription Form

Use these settings to configure the default appearance and values for dosing and prescription forms. See Prescribing Medications and Printable/ Faxable/ Saveable Prescription Form.

  • The location of "Dispense as Written" and "Substitution Permitted" signature lines on the printable/faxable prescription form should be
         ["Dispense as Written" on the left | "Substitution Permitted" on the left]

On the printable/ faxable/ savable requisition form, the signature lines for Substitution Permitted and Dispense as Written can be swapped. Different jurisdictions may require a different configuration.

  • Number of days to warn before a dosing expires ("0" = "same day") [number]
     
     In the prescribing window, there is a checkbox for "Warn me when this dosing expires." If checked, that will generate a Follow Up task when the dosing expires, based on the Days' Supply in the prescription. This setting allows the warning to appear a set number of days before the dosing expires.

 

Pulling in Medications into the Encounter Note Using Chart Parts

Text variables can be used within your Chart Part templates to pull context-specific information into your Encounter Note or message area when the Chart Part is used. The [[pt_rxs]] variable pulls in the patient's current medications list. See Chart Parts and Text Variables for Chart Parts.

Use these settings to configure what should be included in the Encounter Note when this occurs. You can include or omit:

  • The patient instructions for each medication
  • The free-text medication note (if enabled)
  • The patient's past medications
